ISAAC K. BECKES
Beckes worked for six years after graduating from Lincoln to save enough money to enroll at Vincennes University. He continued his studies at the Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute and received a bachelor of divinity degree from the McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago in 1938. He earned a doctor of philosophy degree from Yale University in 1943. In 1950 he was installed as the president of VU. At that time, VU was located in one building at the corner of Fifth and Busseron Street, and had an enrollment of 185 full, and part-time students.
Beckes became president emeritus at VU in 1980 and continued with the college as the director of the VU Foundation.
